The Land Beyond the Sunset is a 1912 shortsilent drama film which tells the story of a young boy, oppressed by his grandmother, who goes on an outing in the country with a social welfare group.

Thanks to the Fresh Air Fund, a slum child escapes his drunken mother for a day's outing in the country. Upon arriving, he and the other children are told a story about a mythical land of no pain. Very loyal, respectful survey of 300 years of Russian history, from the "Time of Troubles" (Polish invasion) in 1613 to the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty in 1913.The coronation of the first Romanov, Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov (played by young Michael Chekhov) is an early highlight, after the Russian defenders finally beat off the Polish invaders. (Co-director Larin & several actors were injured in the battle scenes.) Film concludes with celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Russian victory in the War of 1812. Well respected Pompeiian Glaucus performs an act of kindness by buying Nidia, a blind slave being mistreated by her owner. Nidia falls in love with her new master, but he only has eyes for Jone. Jone in turn is lusted after by Arbace, an Egyptian high priest of Isis. When Nidia beseeches Isis for help in capturing Glaucus' heart, Arbace gives her a "love" potion, which really will affect his mind and not his heart, thus opening the way to Jone for himself. Allegorical film about peace. A king starts a war, many of the women are against it, people are pressed into service. A count has constructed a submarine and gets the order to sink an ocean liner, that is also carrying - supposedly - ammunition for the enemy. The count refuses to fire the torpedos, and sinks the submarine. He survives, but in a limbo between death and life where he meets Jesus, who takes him over to preach peace.
